News was making rounds that a conductor on one of the NJ Transit trains was suspended from his duty recently as he made some immigration related announcements on the train.
An NJ Transit conductor was suspended without pay after passengers on a Monday morning rush-hour train informed that they heard an announcement that immigration agents were onboard and "looking for illegals."
Riders on the North Jersey Coast train out of Bay Head said they heard the conductor make the announcement more than once, but U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said its agents were not present on the train.
A spokesman from ICE informed that the agents and officers never board any public transportation unless they are in pursuit of a specific individual.
However, several passengers on the train, who are daily commuters confirmed that they heard the announcement clearly. The announcement stated that the ICE agents and agents from other law enforcement agencies are on the train looking for illegal immigrants as well as criminals.
Investigations are being carried out to know the details of the case. However, if true, this would be an act of outrageous racial profiling. This is certainly not American Culture. Lastly, it will make communities and neighborhoods more unsafe for the residents.
